School Resource Officer

Our School Resource Officer, Officer Robert Daerr, also known as an SRO, is a fully sworn police officer who is assigned to work in the school district. The School Resource Officer supports and facilitates the educational process within the Greater Latrobe School District by providing a safe and secure environment through building and establishing meaningful relationships with students and staff and proactively interacting with the school community to ensure the enforcement of city and state laws, preservation of public order, protection of life and the prevention, detection, or investigation of crime. Officer Daerr works effectively with students, parents, school personnel and community agencies to support teaching and learning in the schools. He also patrols district property to protect students, staff and visitors from physical harm and prevent loss to district property resulting from criminal activity.

K9 Program

The K9 Program was established in 2011 with Officer Derk as the K9 handler. Rocky was the department’s first K9, a German Shepherd from the Netherlands. Rocky was retired in August 2017 and sadly passed away in October (2017) from Cancer. Officer Derk has a new partner, K9 ZEUS. Zeus was born on May 31, 2016 in Hungary and is an all-black 82-pound German Shepherd. Zeus is certified in narcotics detection and patrol utility through the North American Police Work Dog Association. All of Zeus’s commands are in Dutch.
